The purpose of the Generation Equality Forum (GEF) was to deliberately break up the “old normal” and uniting those who will join the path to the “new normal.” Women and girls of all ages, racial identities and backgrounds from different regions of the world, brought their leadership and their realities to this effort. The world listened to them.
The Generation Equality Forum had its first stop in Mexico City from March 29 to 31, 2021, prior to its second phase in Paris, France, from June 30-July 2. The Conference kicked off the international path towards Women’s Equality, which reached a historic milestone at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, in Beijing. The Fourth World Conference on Women culminated the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), which is considered to be the most progressive blueprint ever for advancing women’s rights.
The Generation Equality Forum made history in Mexico for the mobilization of high-level commitments, for constituting a genuine space for inclusive participation of the different sectors of society, for the relevant participation of indigenous women, and for adopting the «difference» as a fundamental value and engine of transformative change. Mexico has re-marked a historic route on the feminist agenda with young people in their diversity at the center. The Forum resulted in a strengthened feminist path that promises a world in which women and girls can reclaim their power and realise their rights, proving this major event as successful.
